What you see here is a regular composition notebook. It has been soaked in clay slip before firing. Before the book was fired—a base was formed and fired to give the book support. The composition notebook is very fragile after firing and the paper will break off easily. I cracked the base in order to break the book apart. I am interested in pieces and how I may be able to use them.
The next few pictures detail both the texture and the fragility of the book. At this point this piece and another that was fired at the same time is being considered for it’s next stage. Since this is a total experiment I am not sure what the results will be. My first choice is playing with pieces and encaustics.
The patterns, textures and inner sections are exciting to uncover. From here I will just take leap and try something as my choices unfold. I will offer pictures and technique if something comes of this. Until then I will appreciate all the beautiful pieces and views. I will say that I have had this and the other fired composition book in my studio, for a little over two years. Sometimes I dawdle while thinking about a piece. Stay tuned on this one:)
