Forest Surfaces 21 — 22 x 19 x 5 inches
My piece Forest Surfaces 21 will be included in Yosemite Renaissance XXIX. The show will open at the Yosemite Museum Gallery on February 28, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
The exhibition will run through May 11, 2014 when it will then travel to Kings Art Center—Hanford for June and July 2014 and Carnegie Art Center—Turlock in August and September 2014.
Yosemite Renaissance selected artwork is based on “the landscape, environment, wildlife and people of Yosemite or the Sierra Nevada.” This will be my fifth time participating in Yosemite Renaissance and am always honored to be among the fabulous work selected.
Forest Surfaces 21 is constructed of digital prints on beverage cans, cut and strung on brass wire—then crocheted into an assemblage.
I am always inspired by my trips to Yosemite National Park especially—Mariposa Grove where the concept for Forest Surfaces 21 originated. Early morning walks in the grove show so many intense surfaces that between the trees, their environs and the light peaking through it is truly a unique setting.
Here is a detail of the piece.
