I will be leaving a week from today to participate in the Texas Federation of Fiber Artists Conference in Kerrville Texas. The competition that I juried for them a few months ago had it’s opening and can be viewed for the next couple of weeks. Diane Sandlin, who is the curator of the exhibit wrote a post on her Diane Sandlin Studios Blog check it out. So in preparation for some of my new ideas on digital printing alternative surfaces I have been printing tons of surfaces. Both for examples of what we will be printing in the workshop and also some surfaces we won’t get to, but I would like to introduce the ideas.
I used the same image for all the surfaces. When you want to see what affect surfaces have on an image and you keep changing the image you have nothing to compare. I like to use an overall image without a lot of geometric lines when I test several coatings on am image, but just printing full surfaces that is not as critical. Digital alternative surfaces are an amazing way to get texture from an already textural image. You also can do a collage look and add texture to the substrate as well as create a substrate In some of the pictures ou can see the change in substrates with the images. Some it isn’t as noticeable.
