When I build journal pages on my iPad one of my favorite apps is Adobe’s Ideas. The one you can buy layers for works great. When you use layers to build your pages it’s pretty easy. I’ll break down the layers for this quote I created. 
For this image I started at the bottom with a few finger strokes of color.
I added a layer above this one and started on the black squares.
Since I added the black above in a separate layer, I can easily change it or delete it without changing the yellow layer in any way.
After adding the black squares another layer is added above the others.
Now that I added the words I wanted I drew underneath them to add a line around them. This means that I add a layer and place it underneath the word layer.
When all layers are together you have your finished image of the quote.
